A little (German) book tip for spring! The book “Green Travelling – Einfach nachhaltig reisen” was published by the oekom Verlag in 2021, but has lost little of its topicality. Anyone looking for climate-friendly inspiration for travel destinations, packing lists and means of transport this year will find great ideas, tips and travel anecdotes in…

Posted on September 1, 2023October 1, 2023 by Anika

On the German book market, there are hardly any books that deal with the topic of Slow Travel. I was all the more curious when I discovered the newly published travel guide by author Elke Weiler in the spring of 2023. Published by Ellert & Richter Verlag in Hamburg, the book highlights selected places in…

Slow Travel meaning sustainable and slowed-down travel works with kids, too. But to do so you don’t need to travel far: the biggest lake of Germany, Lake Konstanz, is an ideal holiday destination that has especially for families much to offer. Who travels along the so-called “Swabian sea” crosses the neighboring countries Austria and Switzerland….

There is a large selection of accommodation possibilities during bicycle tours. There is something suitable for everyone, from hotels to youth hostels over campgrounds or farm stays. The offers are plenty. Some people are also camping wild in their tents due to budget reasons or just for the adventure. On the contrary, to stay directly…

Slow Travel Blogs – A brief overview

Posted on August 27, 2021August 30, 2023 by Anika

Blogs are short-lived websites. The reason is that they are mostly operated by individual people without commercial interest. On their blogs, the self-declared authors publish different articles in chronological order to one main topic. About Slow Travel, one can find the by me often cited blog of the U.S. American Pauline Kenny, who invented the…

Posted on August 27, 2021August 30, 2023 by Anika

The rising interest in sustainable, slowing down individual travel can be perceived in the success of movies about Slow Travel. Indeed, the movie makers don’t call themselves Slow Traveler, but they comply with the criteria. They select slow, eco-friendly transportation, differentiate themselves from mass tourism and get consciously in contact with locals. A surprising box-office…

Posted on December 22, 2020August 30, 2023 by Anika

Slow Travel has to be learnt. Each action or activity should unfold itself to its fullest during traveling. The Slow Traveler is directing his senses consciously – also to activities, which happen casually in daily life, like meals. These do not only get richer, but are more memorable. Sara Clemence, author of the book “Away…

About TRAVEL SLOWLY

The TRAVEL SLOWLY blog was founded in September 2020 by Anika Neugart to publicize Slow Travel as a form of travel. It is not a private travel blog, but a source of information.

In view of climate change and over-tourism in many areas of the world, travel behaviour should change. Slow Travel is a sustainable and therefore modern way of travelling.

TRAVEL SLOWLY offers explanations of the term “Slow Travel” as well as regular blog posts (see article).
